Chinese HerbsTaking herbs daily increases the duration and depth of effectiveness of an acupuncture session. They represent a time-honored tradition of gently altering a patient’s condition to correct long standing diseases and disharmonies. They work to restore balance at the deepest levels. Herbal formulas may be prescribed as teapills, granules, or teas. While traditional boiled herbs can have a very strong smell and taste, our granule pharmacy provides patients with a safe, convenient and much better tasting option. Many formulas contain ginger, cinnamon, cloves or mint. Most patients actually enjoy taking their herbs, especially because of the feeling of wellness they bring about. Our practitioners are trained in the safe use of herbal medicines both alone and in the presence of biomedical drugs. Our integrative training includes a Master’s of Science degree, with extensive training in pharmacology, physiology, and biochemistry, as well as traditional uses and modern understandings of our traditional pharmacopia. We participate in continuing education events and reading to maintain an up-to-the-moment perspective on these ancient and time-tested therapies.
QigongQigong offers powerful support, whether the goal is transforming life circumstances, easing transitions, or fighting serious diseases. For more than 2,000 years, the Chinese have practiced Qigong as exercise, as meditation, and as a cure for all diseases. Qigong resonates with the vibrations of cosmic and natural events: the dance of the galaxies, the changing of the seasons, the waxing and waning of day and night. Our life processes are governed by the same laws. The internal realization of this correspondence holds the key to health and enlightenment. We offer one-on-one, private Qigong instruction. The program of practice is customized to the needs of the individual student. Many students have expressed a deep appreciation for their learning, and are willing to share their experiences. Ask to speak with one if you are seriously considering this adventure.
Massage, BodyworkReiki Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being. Treatments are usually one hour in length. It is done fully clothed on a massage table. Thai Massage Shiatsu and Thai Massage are forms of clothed therapeutic bodywork based on principles of traditional Asian health maintenance which views our physical, intellectual and emotional life as a unified whole. Both types of bodywork are based on a respect for the positive life force in all beings, within which there is the possibility for growth and renewal. Both modalities promote circulation and regulation of the body's systems and nourish the organs, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and nervous systems. Both promote emotional growth, relieve stress and increase mobility and vitality. Techniques are selected based on the individual's needs and goals. Shiatsu and Thai Massage may include gentle or deep compression, massage, acupressure, stretches and joint rotations. Shiatsu focuses on meridian energy flow, while Thai Massage includes assisted yoga-like postures. Each form stands on its own or can be combined. Additionally, exercises may be suggested to do at home to enhance the benefits of your treatment. With either form, the practitioner is continuously mindful of the receiver's comfort. Fluidity, rhythm, focus, quality of touch and sensitivity are primary. After a session, the receiver feels lighter, more grounded, and both relaxed and energized.
